Tomo Mori creates work that consists of tiny painted canvas pieces that are adhered to the acrylic on canvas painting.
Color and texture are key elements of her work.
She has worked on several public art works and commissions. In 2016 she created a mural at Columbia University’s Miller Theatre.
In 2018 she completed a metal and laminated glass commission for the MTA’s Manhattanville Bus Depot. It is entitled, “The Wheels of the Bus.”
Tomo Mori was born in Osaka, Japan. She studied traditional painting and drawing in Tokyo and received a BFA from the Atlanta College of Art.
She spent many years in the CNN newsroom as an editorial design staffer. From the experience of being exposed to news reports of ongoing conflicts on a daily basis, she began to seek harmonious beauty of co-existence in her own artwork.
She currently resides in New York City focusing on her collage work and mixed media installations.
