Takefumi Hori, was born in Japan and studied calligraphy in his native country. In 2004, he moved to New York and began painting abstract works of acrylic on canvas.
Since 2009, Takefumi has been making gold abstract works.
He currently lives and works in Brooklyn where he is surrounded by the hustle and bustle of everyday urban life. The energy of New York City is an inspiration.
His use of gold as a main material came about after long and intensive experiments.
His compositional forms such as circles, squares and rectangles are ideal forms for gold to work with other colors in his work.
The compositions of these elements are based on his experience with Japanese calligraphy. He merges the traditions of Eastern and Western art.
