Steve Bickley

Steve Bickley creates beautiful metal sculpture and wall reliefs, as well as color prints. In addition, he makes large outdoor sculpture in stainless steel and aluminum.

He has been a practicing artist and educator for 40 years and is now a Professor Emeritus at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg Virginia where he lives.

His most recent works are an examination of forms abstracted from the natural world. He explores the creative challenge of finding a means to sculpt the “unsculptable”. His current “Cloud” series converts the condensed ever-changing vaporous forms of clouds into solid interlocking forms that lean upon a mode of modernist simplification. His foremost interest is in the creative adventure of form making, how forms can unfold, invite, bring smiles, laughter, shock and even frighten. Possibly because of these particular times of disruption and discord, his work embraces colorful forms rendered in stainless steel to delight and give pleasure.

Steve Bickley has vast experience working with renown artists, Beverly Pepper, Cy Twombly, and Santiago Calatrava on multiple public and private sculpture projects.

His work can be found in important public and private collections worldwide.
